Tech Volleyball Tipped at Findlay 3-1

FINDLAY, Ohio — Michigan Tech was edged by Findlay 3-1 in GLIAC volleyball at Croy Gymnasium tonight. The Oilers won with set scores of 25-16, 23-25, 29-27 and 25-22. The Huskies were just five points away from a 3-1 victory as sets three and four were extremely tight.

UF trailed set one 13-11 before the Oilers went on a 12-2 run on their way to the nine-point margin.

Tech built up a 19-13 lead in set two before the hosts stormed back to within 21-20. The Huskies were able to stay at least one point ahead down the stretch and put it away with a Kendall Ward kill for a 25-23 final tally.

Set three turned into a marathon after being tight throughout. The Huskies had three set points while leading 24-22, 24-23 and 25-24. UF fought off all three and used five kills in the final seven points to earn the 29-27 decision.

Tech held a 21-19 advantage in set four before the Oilers ended on a 6-1 run. Back-to-back Mackenzie Vorst kills put away the match.

Vorst finished with a match-high 20 kills for UF. Tech freshman Aubrey Ficek wasn't far behind with 18. Ward added 15 kills for the Huskies.

Michigan Tech out-dug the Oilers 60-52 in the match, but total blocks were a major difference. Findlay posted 17 total team blocks compared to two for the Black and Gold.

The Huskies fell to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in league play with the loss. Findlay improved to 11-4 and 4-2 in the GLIAC

Tech will travel to Detroit tomorrow to face Wayne State at 4 p.m.
