Box Score 2 SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Michigan Tech volleyball team defeated
Briar Cliff in five sets before dropping a four set match to Black
Hills State Saturday (Sept. 8).
“It was our defense that kept us in the match,” said
head coach Matt Jennings following the Briar Cliff win. “We
kept a lot of balls in play.”
Jacqueline Aird finished with a team-high 29 digs. Madeline Haben
chipped in 25 digs, and Shelby Jones and Abbey DeWitt each finished
with 16 and 15 digs respectively.
Shelby Jones and Jordanna Kero led the offensive attack for the
Huskies against Briar Cliff finishing with 12 kills each. Aubrey
Havlichek contributed 10 kills.
The Huskies closed out the weekend with a 3-1 loss to the host
Black Hills State.
“We played well at times, but didn't execute when we
needed to,” said Jennings. “We lacked consistency at
the net and on defense. We know we can and must do better in
certain areas. Those will be addressed this week in practice as we
prepare for conference play to start.”
Kienna Sharp hit .407 and tallied 15 kills. Jacqueline Aird made 14
digs, and Aubrey Havlicheck finished with nine.
Tech will open GLIAC play at Lake Superior State Friday (Sept.
15th).
