HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Wayne State Warriors spoiled the long awaited home opener for the Michigan Tech volleyball team posting a 3-0 win over the Huskies Saturday (Sept. 29). WSU won by a combined 12 points (25-20, 25-21, 25-22).

“I certainly felt we were in the match, and I'm pretty happy to see our resilience out on the court,” said head coach Matt Jennings.

The Huskies struggled to find its offensive rhythm early hitting .031 in the first set compared to Wayne State who hit .143. Wayne State out hit Tech .125 to .033 in the match.

Set two was a close affair with neither team holding a lead of more than three points. With the score tied at 21, the Warriors capitalized on a Tech service error with back-to-back kills and a Tech attack error to win the set.

Tech found itself tied late once again in the third set 19-19, but Wayne State used a four-point run late in the set for the win.

“There is a reason that Wayne State is undefeated in the conference,” said Jennings. “They come through when it matters most. We will get there.”

The match was a battle at the net with both teams finishing with nine blocks apiece. Kienna Sharp finished with a match-high six blocks, including four solos, for the Huskies.

Tech finished with a 56-51 advantage in digs and recorded all three of the aces in the match.

Shelby Jones tallied 12 kills and Jacqueline Aird finished with a match-high 22 digs to lead the Huskies. Madeline Haben recorded 25 of the team's 31 assists.

Tech (5-9, 2-4 GLIAC) will host Findlay Sunday (Sept. 30).
