Box Score CROOKSTON, Minn. - The Michigan Tech soccer team opened the 2012
with a 1-0 non-conference win at Minn.-Crookston Saturday (Sept.
1). Amanda Whiting netted the only goal for the Huskies in the 81st
minute with an assist from Lindsey Van Rooy.
“Our girls played incredibly hard today, and we are excited
to start the season off with a victory,” said head coach
Michelle Jacob. “The hot temperature and fierce wind caused
us problems throughout the game, and Crookston defended us very
hard for all 90 minutes. At half time we asked the girls to focus
more on playing the ball to feet which eventually created an
opportunity for Amanda Whiting to get a shot off and find the back
of the net. It was a great team effort by our players, and we look
forward to taking on Bemidji tomorrow.”
The Huskies finished with a 13-6 shot advantage and a 7-2 lead in
corner kicks.
Jenna Phelps made two saves to earn her first career win for
Michigan Tech.
Tech will play at Bemidji State Sunday (Sept. 2).
