HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech earned its first GLIAC men's
tennis victory of the season today with a 6-3 decision vs. Tiffin.
The Huskies improved to 5-9 on the season with the win.
A big part of Tech's triumph was sweeping doubles play. No. 1
doubles pair Anders Sandholm and Luka Stupar earned an 8-1 victory. No. 3 doubles duo
Bryan Bartelt and Doug Yossida claimed an 8-4 win. At No. 2 doubles, James Konarske and Andrew Kremkow held off a late charge from Tiffin to
earn an 8-6 decision.
The teams split the six singles flights, with the Huskies winning
at the top three positions. Sandholm was a 7-6 (2), 6-2 victor at
No. 1 for his team-leading ninth singles win of the season. Stupar
cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 score at No. 2. Yossida closed out the team's
scoring with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 triumph at No. 3.
Tiffin won at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 in straight sets.
"This was our best overall match so far this season," said head
coach Kevin Kalinec. "All three doubles played well, and
that was the key to the win."
Michigan Tech will play its final home match of 2012 tomorrow
(Saturday) morning at 10 a.m. vs. Findlay.
