HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Tech volleyball team dropped a
3-0 decision to Grand Valley State Sunday (Sept. 11). The Lakers
(4-2, 1-1 GLIAC) finished with 13 blocks to just one by the Huskies
(2-6, 0-3 GLIAC).
The GVSU attack got to work early hitting a match-high .355 to win
the first set 25-16.
Tech nearly came away with the win in set two but a pair of
mistakes late in the set did in the Huskies. Freshman Kienna Sharp
tied the game at 22-22 with a kill, but the Huskies could not get
the serve in bounds on the following play. Grand Valley would claim
the second set, 25-22, with a kill and a block by junior Eno Umoh
on the final two set points.
GVSU sophomore Stacy Catalano recorded eight of her match-high 22
kills to lead the Lakers to a 25-20 win in the third set.
Grand Valley hit .234 in the match and held Tech to a .073 attack
percentage.
Senior Jenna Karkos and sophomore Jordanna Kero each tallied seven
kills to lead the Huskies.
Sophomore Tessa Mauer recorded a team-high 12 digs and sophomore
Abby Dewitt chipped in 10.
Junior Skylar Paffenroth finished with a match-high 24 assists.
Michigan Tech will continue GLIAC play Friday (Sept. 16) at Lake
Erie.
