No. 8 Huskies Thump GLIAC South Leader Findlay 75-43

Box Score

FINDLAY, Ohio - The battle of GLIAC Divisional leaders was dominated by Michigan Tech 75-43 tonight at Findlay. The Huskies shot 56 percent and held the Oilers to 25 percent in improving to 17-2 overall and 12-1 in conference play.

Tech played a very strong first half-especially Lisa Staehlin, who dropped in as many points by herself as the Oilers (15). The Huskies defense limited UF to 17 percent shooting and just four field goals in the opening 20 minutes.

UF (14-5, 9-3 GLIAC) came out more aggressively in the second half, but Tech continued to expand on its lead. Sam Hoyt scored seven points in the first four minutes and Staehlin added four more. The Oilers remained within 15 at the 11:49 mark before Tech slammed the door shut on any Findlay hopes. Kate Glodowski converted a four-point play and added another 3-pointer during a 15-2 Huskies run.

The margin grew to as many as 33 before the final horn.

"This is a great win for us," said head coach Kim Cameron. "We stayed strong for the entire 40 minutes, and I'm really proud of the team for not letting up.

"We set the tone with defense and pounding the ball into the post, then carried it through the whole game."

Staehlin led all scorers with 21 points. Hoyt added 18 points and a career-high nine assists. Glodowski also reached double figures with 12 points.

Lucy Dernovsek may have had the most impressive stat line of the night with six points, eight rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks.

The Huskies held Clare Aubry and Laura Bardall, who both have season averages over 14 points per game, to a combined 14 points on 2-of-15 shooting.

The Black and Gold held a 37-26 rebounding advantage and made 9-of-14 3-pointers in the contest.

Michigan Tech will return to action at Wayne State on Saturday (Feb. 5). Tipoff in Detroit is scheduled for 3 p.m.
