Box Score

MIDLAND, Mich. - Mike Hojnacki and Ali Haidar combined for 40 points to lead Michigan Tech to an 88-77 victory at Northwood in GLIAC men's basketball today. The Huskies scored 48 points in the paint for their fifth straight win to improve to 16-10 overall and 11-8 in the GLIAC.

Tech pounded the ball into the post all day and received good results. The Huskies either scored near the basket or kicked it out for wide open 3-pointers. The visitors swished 10-of-23 treys.

"We're playing with confidence right now," said head coach Kevin Luke, who won his 299th career game on the day. "The balance we had was awesome. We had five guys in double figures and another with nine, and that's exactly what we want to see."

Hojnacki led the way with 22 points and seven rebounds. Haidar added 18 points and a game-high 10 boards. Don Fowler and Austin Armga scored 12 points apiece while Jordan Reetz added 11.

Tech started well and led by as many as 13 in the opening half. Northwood (10-18, 7-12 GLIAC) was able to make a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to cut it to 43-35.

The Timberwolves battled back to take a 46-45 lead three minutes into the second half, but the hosts' only lead of the game would be short-lived. Armga drove for a layup and buried a 3-pointer for a four-point Huskies lead less than a minute later.

Both offenses continued to score throughout the second half. NU stayed within five with 6:38 to play before a 7-0 run by Tech broke the game open. Armga hit a 3-pointer and Haidar added back-to-back layups for an 80-68 advantage. The Huskies were able to hold off the Timberwolves the rest of the way.

Tech shot 54 percent from the field and held a 39-34 rebounding advantage. Northwood shot 46 percent from the floor.

Michigan Tech has locked up the No. 6 seed in the GLIAC Tournament, which begins next Wednesday (March 2). The Huskies will play on the road at No. 3-seeded Grand Valley State at 6 p.m.
