Men's Basketball Drops Ferris to Lead GLIAC North

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Michigan Tech men's basketball team shot 71-percent (29-41) to defeat Ferris State 77-64 Sunday (Dec. 18). Tech improves to 6-4 overall and leads the GLIAC North Division with a perfect 4-0 conference record.

Ferris (6-4, 3-1) shot 37-percent (19-51) in the contest.

"It was really important to come on the road and beat a good team," said head coach Kevin Luke. "Today we played well enough to beat a good team."

Junior Ali Haidar recorded his fifth straight double-double with a game-high 17 points and game-high 12 rebounds. The Windsor, Ont., native shot 7-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Austin Armga scored 16 points shooting 6-of-8 from the field including both 3-point attempts.

Freshman Ben Stelzer added 15 points and sophomore Alex Culy finished with 13.

Tech out-scored Ferris 38-20 in the paint, but the Bulldogs finished with a 30-22 rebounding advantage, including an 11-3 difference on the offensive glass.

FSU made more free throws in the contest, 21, than Tech attempted, 18.

Tech will play at Grand Valley State Monday (Dec. 19).
