Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. - Junior Sam Hoyt scored a career- high 26 points to lead the No. 9 Michigan Tech women's basketball team to a 66-52 win at Concordia-St. Paul Saturday (Nov. 26). Hoyt, who was named the tournament's most valuable player, shot 8-of-16 from the floor, including 4-of-10 from deep, and made all six free throw attempts.
Concordia (3-3) got ahead of Tech after a 12-0 run midway through the first half to hold a 28-17 advantage over the Huskies (4-1) at halftime.
Tech put together a scoring streak of its own making 10 straight baskets in the second half to go on top 55-40. The Huskies would out score the Golden Bears in the second half, 49- 24, to win 66-52.
Tech won the battle on the boards out rebounding Concordia 66-52 and was perfect from the free throw line making all nine.
Senior Lynn Giesler also brought home all-tournament honors for the Huskies with a career-high 18 points. The Green Bay, Wis., native shot 9-of 14 from the field and blocked two shots.
Junior Emma Veach grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and added nine points for the Huskies. She also dished out three assists and tallied two steals.
Tech will open GLIAC play Saturday (Dec. 3) when it hosts rival Northern Michigan.
