HOUGHTON, Mich. - Ferris State scored three goals in the first
13 minutes to defeat Michigan Tech 3-2 in Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference soccer action Sunday (Sept. 19)
at Sherman Field. Tech (2-3-0, 0-4-0 GLIAC) out shout Ferris
(1-4-1, 1-2-1 GLIAC) 13-12 in the match.
"We played flat and lacked intensity to start the match and it cost
us three goals," said head coach Michelle
Jacob. "I was proud of our girls for playing strong and with
intensity in the second half."
Senior Megan Stec opened the scoring FSU at 2:21 with a shot off a
cross from junior Bri Borgman. Senior Kara Lovelace also assisted
on the goal.
Borgman followed up her assist by scoring the next two Bulldog
goals. She headed in a pass from freshman Emily Kraska at 6:30 and
fired a shot from outside the top of the penalty box for her third
goal of the season at 12:12.
Tech freshman Amber Hynnek broke up the FSU shutout after scoring
off a free kick from 30 yards out at 26:44.
Sophomore Ann Roman would score a late goal off a header for the
Huskies with seven minutes remaining to wrap-up the scoring in the
match.
Freshman Rachel McCollum made six saves in the Ferris win and
freshman MaryBeth Spoehr made two saves in the loss.
Michigan Tech will continue GLIAC play when it hosts Northwood
Saturday (Sept. 25).
