HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Tech volleyball team swept Lake
Erie 3-0 to claim its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference victory of the season. The Huskies won with game scores
of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-14 to improve to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the
conference.
Tech's offense was clicking today with a team hitting
percentage of .349. Senior Kasey
Woodcock had the most impressive stat line with 11 kills and
just one error for a .588 percentage.
Tech jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the first set and rode the
momentum through the rest of the match.
"All the wins count," said head coach Orlando
Gonzalez. "We got on the board with a conference win, and can
now relax and execute a little bit more.
"Today, were more consistent for longer periods of time. We
played better defense, getting balls to our quick attackers and
finishing plays."
Senior
Alicia
Schneider tallied nine kills and seven digs for the Huskies.
Junior Kristine
Sexton added seven kills.
Sophomore Skylar
Paffenroth notched a career-high 22 assists as the starting
setter.
Lake Erie hit just .021 for the match. No one player had more
than five kills.
Michigan Tech will remain at home for its next three matches.
The Huskies host Northern Michigan Tuesday (Sept. 21) at 7
p.m.
