HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech claimed its first GLIAC men's
tennis win of the season with a 7-2 triumph over Tiffin today at
Gates Tennis Center. The Huskies improved to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in
league play.
Tech opened with two of three doubles points, winning handily at
Nos. 2 and 3. David
Heuer and Anders Sandholm did not
surrender a game 8-0 at No. 2. Chris Verhulst and Tim Viola were
victorious 8-3 at No. 3.
The momentum carried into singles. The Huskies won at every flight
except No. 5-and all in straight sets. No. 1 singles player Luka
Stupar earned his first career GLIAC win by a 6-2, 6-2 score.
Heuer extended his singles win streak to a team-best three matches
with a 6-2, 6-4 score at No. 3.
"We had a lot of good performances today," said head coach Mike
Axford. "We started out well in doubles and had a lot of
energy.
"It was nice to be home finally and get a good win."
Michigan Tech will wrap up its 2010 regular season tomorrow with an
11 a.m. match vs. Findlay at Gates Tennis Center.
