Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech opened its season in dominating fashion with an 83-36 win over Finlandia tonight at the SDC Gym. The Huskies received at least five points from 10 different players to give head coach Kim Cameron her first career win.
Tech's offense started slowly, scoring just 10 points in the first eight minutes. The Huskies exploded from there, tallying 39 more in the half for a 46-19 lead at the break. The margin expanded from 27 to as many as the second half.
"It's nice to get a win to open the season," said Cameron, who took over for John Barnes last June. "We had some kinks to work out, missing some layups and being out of position defensively. Overall, I'm happy we were able to get everybody playing time and come out on top."
Freshman Kate Glodowski led the way for the Huskies on offense, dropping in 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Senior Lucy Dernovsek posted 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks in just 21 minutes of play. Other starters Lindsey Lindstrom and Lisa Staehlin tallied nine and eight points, respectively.
Tech's bench outscored FU's 49-2, led by Glodowski's 13. Krista Kasuboski and Kelcey Traynoff scored seven points apiece off the bench.
Michigan Tech shot 42 percent for the game and held the Lions to 33 percent. The hosts also utilized a 46-26 rebounding edge.
Tech will return to action tomorrow night vs. Minnesota Duluth. Tipoff at the SDC Gym is slated for 5 p.m.
