HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Tech volleyball team wrapped up
its 2010 home schedule with a 3-1 loss to Ferris State this
afternoon. The Huskies battled back from a 2-0 deficit and nearly
forced a fifth set before falling in the fourth.
The hitting percentages for each team were nearly identical,
and Tech led the Bulldogs in blocks (7-4) and digs (59-52). FSU
utilized a 12-2 advantage in service aces to turn the match its
way.
"We came out of intermission and played hard for the final two
sets," said head coach Orlando
Gonzalez. "Our ball distribution was much better today than
yesterday, but Ferris was able to execute in the critical moments
and we weren't."
Ferris State won the opening two sets 25-15 and 25-22 to take
a 2-0 lead into the intermission. The Huskies bounced back in set
three with a .364 hitting percentage. The Huskies were down 21-19
in the set before turning the momentum. Kasey
Woodcock recorded two blocks and two kills in the final eight
points to help Tech win the set 25-23.
Kristine
Sexton compiled seven of her 15 total kills in the third set
including one on the deciding point.
The fourth set went down to the wire. With the score tied at
22-all, Tech committed a service error. FSU put away the match with
two straight kills from Arielle Goodson, who finished with a
match-high 17 kills. The final set score was 25-22.
Tech's Abby
DeWitt hit .538 for the match with seven kills and no errors on
13 attempts. She also recorded 11 digs.
Madeline
Haben notched 45 assists and 13 digs to lead the Huskies in
both categories. Woodcock finished with 12 kills and a .308 hitting
percentage.
Michigan Tech will finish its 2010 season with its final five
matches on the road. The Huskies next play at Lake Superior State
Friday (Oct. 29) at 7 p.m.
