BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Katie Zimmerman swished a school-record eight 3-pointers to lead Michigan Tech to a 75-58 GLIAC basketball victory at Ferris State today. Zimmerman notched a career-high 26 points as the Huskies won their eighth straight game and improved to 18-1 overall and 13-1 in the GLIAC.

Coupled with a Grand Valley State loss to Northern Michigan, Tech now holds a two-game lead in the league standings with six of its final eight games at the SDC Gym.

"I'm very happy to finish off the road trip at 4-0," said head coach John Barnes. "It was a game of runs, but I think our runs lasted longer.

"It helped that Zim (Zimmerman) had a big game, too. She was very aggressive, and it paid off."

The first half was a streaky 20 minutes. Tech built up an early 14-5 lead as Zimmerman buried a pair of 3-pointers. FSU answered with a 17-9 stretch to pull within a point before the Huskies scored nine straight for a 32-22 advantage.

Both Sarah Stream and Katie Wysocky picked up two fouls midway through the frame, but the visitors maintained the 10-point by halftime with the play of Lisa Staehlin and Lucy Dernovsek, who accounted for three points apiece.

Ferris State closed to within 41-38 five minutes into the second half as Tiara Adams worked the offensive glass. Tech then went on an 18-1 run with the help of three Zimmerman 3-pointers and a trey from Wysocky. That left the score 59-39 with 8:49 to play. The Bulldogs only got as close as 16 the rest of the way as Zimmerman nailed two more triples to break her own school record.

Zimmerman tallied four assists, two rebounds and two steals to go with her career high in points. Danae Danen added 14 points and seven rebounds. Wysocky posted her 15th double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds in addition to four assists.

Staehlin had a stellar game off the bench with nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Michigan Tech shot 52 percent from the field and 14-of-16 (88 percent) from the free throw line to get the win. FSU was held to 29.5 percent from the floor. The Bulldogs were outrebounded 40-35, but they turned 16 offensive rebounds in 19 second-chance points.

Michigan Tech, which has played six of its last eight games on the road, returns home for six of its next eight. The Huskies host Tiffin on Thursday (Feb. 4) at 5:30 p.m. in the first of two Winter Carnival week affairs.
