WYSOCKY EARNS FIFTH PLAYER OF WEEK NOD
Senior Katie Wysocky tallied a pair
of 20-point, 10-rebound games last week to earn her fifth GLIAC
North Division Player of the Week accolade this season. The 6-0
forward registered 28 points and 15 rebounds in 27 minutes of
action at Saginaw Valley State. She followed that up with 20 points
and 11 boards at Lake Superior State. Wysocky averages 17.8 points
and 11.7 rebounds per game this season. She leads the GLIAC in both
rebounding and field goal percentage (60.4) while ranking third and
seventh, respectively, in those two categories nationally.
STAEHLIN AND HOYT PROVIDE PLENTIFUL POINTS
Junior center Lisa Staehlin and freshman
guard Sam
Hoyt accounted for 25 of the 27 bench points for the Huskies in
a lopsided 91-54 victory over Saginaw Valley State last Thursday
(Jan. 21). Staehlin, a 6-2 Tinley Park, Ill., native turned in her
best performance of the season with 12 points. Hoyt, a true
freshman from Arkansaw, Wis., had 13 points of her own.
FERRIS ENJOYS FIRST DOUBLE-DIGIT GAME SINCE SEASON
OPENER
Usually a player whose presence is felt on the defensive end of
things, Tara Ferris provided an
offensive spark on Saturday (Jan. 23) against Lake Superior State.
The 5-9 senior recorded 10 points in a tough 72-67 win against the
Lakers. Ferris made good on all three of her 3-point attempts as
part of a 27-10 second half run.
SERIES HISTORY
Michigan Tech leads in the all-time series with Grand Valley State
and Ferris State. The Huskies are 35-29 against GVSU, including a
8-2 mark in their last 10 games against the Lakers. Tech is 37-23
against FSU, but faces an uphill battle as it has lost its last
three games in Big Rapids. See page 4 for complete series
history.
