HOUGHTON, Mich. - Ashlee Crowder recorded a team-high 20 kills
and added 15 digs to lead Hillsdale to a 3-1 victory over Michigan
Tech Friday (Sept. 25) at the SDC Gym. With the win, the Chargers
remain tops in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
with a 6-0 league record and are 13-1 overall. The Huskies drop to
3-3 in the GLIAC and 5-9 overall.
Hillsdale jumped out to an early six point lead and survived a late
rally from Tech to win set one 25-20. The Huskies would reverse the
action in set two building a four point lead before dropping set
two in extra points 27-25. Tech won the third set 25-22 before
dropping the final set 25-13.
"I think we started out too slow for us to be successful," said
head coach Orlando
Gonzalez. "We have to be a team that comes out pretty fast and
gets up on people and executes. We didn't do that. They're too good
a team to allow that to happen."
Senior Kaari Nevanen lead the
Huskies with a double-double thanks to a team-high 15 kills and 10
assists.
Sophomore Kristine Sexton was the most
consistent attacker finishing with 11 kills with just one error for
a .345 attack percentage.
Senior Melissa Axtell recorded a
season-high 10 kills in the match and freshman Madeline Haben
tallied 44 of the team's 48 assists.
The Chargers finished with advantages in blocks (9-4) and digs
(77-62).
Tech will play host to Findlay Saturday (Sept. 26) at 3 pm.
