TIFFIN, Ohio The Michigan Tech men's tennis team claimed
its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of
the season with a 9-0 sweep at Tiffin Friday (April 3). The Huskies
snapped a five-match losing streak with the win and improved to 5-8
overall and 1-4 in league play.
Tech won all six singles flights and all three doubles positions in
the match, with the closest scores coming at the top. Brett
Girard and Douglas Yossida posted an 8-5 win at No. 1
doubles while the scores a Nos. 2 and 3 were 8-3 and 8-1,
respectively.
In singles, Girard used a 10-7 super tiebreaker score to win after
splitting the first two sets with scores 7-5 and 6-1. Huskies' No.
2 singles player Anders Sandholm lost his first set 5-7 before
triumphing 6-3, 6-3 in the final two sets.
Michigan Tech will play again at 10 a.m. Saturday (April 4) at
Findlay in its final regular season road match.
