SPRINGBORN REACHES 1,000-POINT MILESTONE
Senior Robby Springborn became one of only 22 players in Michigan Tech history to reach the 1,000-point milestone when he made a short jumper in the second half of last Saturday's (Feb. 21) game vs. Hillsdale. The 5-11 guard has a team-high 323 points on the season and 1,002 for his career.

HOJNACKI CONTINUES TO SOLID OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
Freshman Mike Hojnacki recorded his 10th game of the season in double figures in points last Saturday. The 6-7 forward went 5-of-9 from the field and finished the contest with 11 points to go with a career-high-tying seven rebounds. Hojnacki, who has nine of the 10 double-figure outputs in the 2009 half of the season, owns the team's third-best scoring average of 8.0 per game. He is the top 3-point shooter on the squad at 41.7 percent.

BALL BREAKS OUT IN FINAL TWO HOME GAMES
Senior Brandon Ball led the team in scoring each of the last two games with eight points vs. No. 1-ranked Findlay and a career-high 13 vs. Hillsdale. The 5-11 guard's previous career high was Ball entered the week with a scoring average of 3.7 points per game.

GLIAC TOURNAMENT IN SIGHT
With just one more win, Michigan Tech will clinch its 12th straight trip to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Huskies have not missed a league playoff since the 1996-97 season. Tech has been to 13 GLIAC Tournaments in its history — with all of them coming since the 1994-95 campaign.

GEARY HAS 100 CAREER STEALS, ON VERGE OF 200 ASSISTS
Sean Geary has 24 steals this season and 107 for his career. That ranks 11th all-time at Michigan Tech. The 5-10 guard is one of only 12 players in school history with 100 career steals. Geary also owns 69 assists on the year and 199 for his career. He needs 32 more to move into the top 10 on Tech's all-time assist chart.

ROAD SWEET ROAD
Michigan Tech is 3-1 in its last four away games and owns a road record of 6-5. The Huskies are 6-8 in home games. They have defied normalcy by shooting a better field goal percentage away from the SDC Gym including a remarkable 10 percent better from 3-point range on other teams' floors. Of course, Tech played a school-record-most 14 regular season home games in 2008-09.

FREE THROW SUCCESS
Michigan Tech ranks second in the GLIAC and ranks 24th in NCAA Division II in free throw accuracy. The Huskies have made 399-of-538 foul shots this season for a 74.2 percent clip. Robby Springborn has been a large part of that success with a 89.9 percent rate — second best in the GLIAC and ninth in the country. Don Fowler (85.4), Matt Gaedke (83.3) and Georgio Holt (81.3) are also over 80 percent on the year.

BOWE IN 500-500 CLUB
Senior Fedrick Bowe has eclipsed both the 500-point and 500-rebound in the month of February. The 6-5 forward has accumulated 270 points and 191 rebounds this season to push his career totals to 515 points and 510 rebounds. Only 22 other players in Michigan Tech men's basketball history have surpassed the 500-rebound plateau.

COACH KEVIN LUKE
Coach Kevin Luke (Northern Michigan, ‘82) is in his 15th season guiding the Michigan Tech men's basketball program. He is a four-time Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (1994-95, 1997-98, 2001-02, 2003-04) and was the 2002-03 National Coach of the Year. Luke is the winningest coach in Michigan Tech history with a 272-158 record (.633 pct).

HISTORY VS. LAKE SUPERIOR STATE AND SAGINAW VALLEY STATE
Michigan Tech has a long history with both Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State. LSSU owns a 48-45 all-time series lead over the Huskies thanks to three straight wins including a 58-51 triumph in Houghton earlier this season (Jan. 24). Tech is a 33-32 leader in the all-time series vs. Saginaw Valley State. The Cardinals drew within one with a 85-73 decision at Tech last month (Jan. 22). See page 4 for complete series history.

TIDBITS

Robby Springborn and Tech women's player Sarah Stream both scored their 1,000th career points during last Saturday's (Feb. 21) doubleheader vs. Hillsdale. Interestingly, Tech had a player from each team (Catherine Rottier and Tim Strom) tally 1,000 points on the same night a year ago (Jan. 17, 2008, vs. Wayne State) ... Tech's success seems to be predicated on field goal shooting. The Huskies are 9-0 when they shoot a better percentage than their opponent and 11-5 when they shoot at least 40 percent from the field.
