WYOSCKY SCORES 1,000TH POINT IN 83-59 WIN OVER TIFFIN

Box Score

HOUGHTON, Mich. — The Michigan Tech women's basketball team held serve against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference newcomer Tiffin today with an 83-59 victory at the SDC Gym. Junior forward Katie Wysocky scored a game-high 21 points including the 1,000th of her career to help the No. 16-ranked Huskies remain undefeated in the league at 8-0 and improve to 11-2 overall.

Junior Danae Danen added 18 points and two others reached double figures in a balanced Tech scoring attack.

Tiffin (4-9, 3-5 GLIAC) started the game very well. The visiting Dragons held a 16-6 lead seven minutes into the contest before the Black and Gold got on track. The Huskies outscored their foes 32-12 through the rest of the period and went into halftime up 38-28. Katie Zimmerman's 3-pointer with three seconds left in the half finished off the run.

Michigan Tech (11-2, 8-0 GLIAC) scored the first five points of the second half with a jumper from Tara Ferris and a Wysocky 3-pointer. The trey at 17:53 gave the Whitefish Bay, Wis., product 1,000 points for her career.

The Huskies continued to expand the margin through the final horn, and nine different players collected points in the game.

"Tiffin came out aggressively," said head coach John Barnes. "Once we were able to contain them, we turned things around. We went from being down 10 to up 10 by half, then started the second half well."

Wysocky's 21 points came with a career-high-tying four 3-pointers. She also added six rebounds and a pair of steals.

"You know what you're going with Katie (Wysocky)," said Barnes. "You can count on 12 to 16 points and six to 10 rebounds every night."

Lisa Staehlin posted 15 points in just 13 minutes off the bench. Zimmerman added 12 points — all on 3-pointers. Her 4-of-6 mark today made her 10-of-14 from behind the arc on the weekend.

Tech shot 53 percent from the floor and 56 percent from behind the arc. The Huskies also held a 34-26 rebounding advantage.

Tiffin cashed in on 52 percent of its field goal attempts in the second half to conclude the game at 44 percent.

Michigan Tech will play on the road at No. 7 Hillsdale next Thursday (Jan. 15) in a battle of GLIAC division leaders. Tipoff in Hillsdale, Mich., is slated for 6 p.m.

Notes: Wysocky joins 15 other players with 1,000 career points. Only six others have both 1,000 points and 600 rebounds. Wysocky's totals currently stand at 1,008 and 615.
