ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Michigan Tech volleyball team posted a
3-1 victory over Wis. Parkside before dropping a 3-0 match to No.
18 Indianapolis today at the Lewis Flyer Invitational. The Huskies
are now 5-3 for the season.
The Huskies, who had 12 different players see action in the match,
finished with a season-high .377 attack percentage against Wis.
Parkside. They also recorded a season-high nine service aces.
"We came out strong against Wis. Parkside. We had good ball control
in the match and that's what we need to do on a nightly basis,"
said head coach Krista Mikesch. "Overall it was a good regional
win for us."
Junior Kelly Jorgensen tallied a season-high 19 kills
and finished with a season-high .692 attack percentage in the
match.
Senior Veronica Armstrong also enjoyed a strong day
offensively finishing with 15 kills.
Michigan Tech's offensive attack cooled off in the second match
against No. 18 Indianapolis. The Huskies hit .121 in the match to
the Greyhound's .180. However, Tech did record eight blocks to
Indy's four in the match.
Jorgenson led the Huskies with 10 kills in the match. Senior Kelsey
Skoog finished the match with 24 assists and eight digs.
"We had too many unforced errors in the match. We got behind in
sets two and three and were unable to rebound," said Mikesch. "We
have a lot of seniors and we need them to show some
leadership."
Cheneta Morrison recorded a match-high 13 kills for the
Greyhounds.
The Huskies will make both their home and Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference openers Friday, Sept. 12 at
7:00 pm.
