Biography

Krista Mikesch, who was an All-American setterfor the Huskies from 1993-96, is in her ninth season guiding theMichigan Tech women’s volleyball program. She was named theschool’s fifth head coach in April of 1999.

A native of Reno, Nev., Mikesch holds a 109-137 record at Tech,including a 62-74 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate AthleticConference games. Mikesch has coached 14 All-GLIAC selections and52 GLIAC All-Academic Team recipients.

Mikesch led the Huskies to a breakout season in 2006, MichiganTech closed the year with a 15-15 overall record, its best marksince the 2001 campaign when it went 18-12. The Huskies finishedthird in the GLIAC North Division at 11-7, which represented theirbest conference finish since 1997 and their best league recordsince 1998. MTU recorded an 8-3 record at home, its best such marksince 1997.

Under Mikesch's guidance, the Huskies competed in the NCAAChampionships for the first time since 1997 after earning anat-large invitation to the Great Lakes Regional in Hillsdale, Mich.MTU lost a hard-fought match by a score of 3-2 to SIU-Edwardsvillein the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

The Huskies registered their first win over Findlay since 2000,they notched their first victory against Northern Michigan since2002, and defeated Northwood for the first time since 2001. Inaddition, Michigan Tech swept Saginaw Valley State and Northwood athome for the first time since the 2001 campaign. The Huskies bestedboth Ashland and Findlay, marking the first time since 2000 thatTech had beaten both programs in the same season.

The two seasons prior to being named head coach, she served asthe program’s first full-time assistant coach and helpedguide the team to a 40-32 overall record, including an appearancein the NCAA II Championships in 1997.

Prior to that, she was a four-year starter at setter for MichiganTech. As a freshman, she helped the Huskies to a 26-7 record andthe school’s first-ever NCAA Tournament bid. She earnedAll-GLIAC honors that year and also garnered the Terry Wilson Awardsignifcant of the school’s top freshman femalestudent-athlete.

Her sophomore campaign, in 1994, she set the Huskies to aschool-record 30-3 mark, the GLIAC title, and an NCAA Tournamentappearance. She earned First-Team All-America honors as well asAll-GLIAC and All-Great Lakes Region recognition.

As a junior, Mikesch gained All-GLIAC honors and helped the Huskiesto a 20-12 mark overall and a second-place league finish.

She capped a spectacular career gaining All-GLIAC honors for thefourth straight year as the Huskies went 24-11 and made a fourthstraight appearance in the NCAA II Championships. In addition,Mikesch earned the prestigious Raymond L. Smith Award as theschool’s top senior female student-athlete.

Mikesch, 32, is a member of the American Volleyball CoachesAssociation. She is in her eighth year as one of just 35 votersnationwide for the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Mikesch, who resides in Hancock, Mich., has two sons, Parker (7)and Mason (4).
