HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Tech volleyball team remained
undefeated in conference play after it rolled past Upper Peninsula
foe Lake Superior State, 3-0, Saturday (Sept. 13). The Huskies
improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC while the Lakers fall
to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Black and Gold controlled the tempo throughout the match and
found themselves trailing for only three points.
"We have focused on working hard and not giving up regardless of
our opponent," said head coach Krista
Mikesch. "We went into today knowing we had to control play on
our side of the net. We accomplished that and came away with the
win."
Tech enjoyed a strong day on the offense attack hitting .289 to
-.010 by the Lakers. The Huskies also finished with 10.0 blocks on
the day while the Lakers finished with zero.
Senior Jen Jung and junior Kaari
Nevanen each finished with a match-high eight kills in a match
that had 15 different Tech players see action on the court.
"We have one of the deepest benches in the GLIAC. There is not a
big difference between our starters and our reserves," said
Mikesch. "It was nice to be able to get some of other players some
experience."
The Huskies will continue GLIAC play when it hosts local rival
Northern Michigan Tuesday (Sept. 16) at 7:00 p.m.
