GEARY RESETS CAREER MARK AGAIN
Less than a week after posting a career-high 17 points at Ferris
State (Feb. 9), junior Sean Geary reset his career-high with 18
points last Thursday (Feb. 14) vs. Saginaw Valley State. The junior
point guard has averaged 11.5 points per game over the last six
games. His scoring average over the first 17 games of the year was
3.0 points.
COACH LUKE VS. NORTHERN MICHIGAN
Head Coach Kevin Luke, who is in his 14th season at Michigan Tech,
owns a 21-15 all-time record against Northern Michigan. Luke is the
winningest coach in the program's history with a 259-143 all-time
record (.644 percentage). The four-time Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (1994-95, 1997-98, 2001-02,
2003-04) was the 2002-03 National Coach of the Year.
STROM MOVES UP SCORING CHART
Senior Tim Strom tallied 26 points in two games last week with 10
vs. Saginaw Valley State and a team-high 16 vs. Northwood. The 6-7
forward has improved his career total to 1,081 and is now the
17th-highest scorer in Michigan Tech history.
DECADE OF SUCCESS
Michigan Tech owns one of the most successful programs in the GLIAC
since Jan. 1, 2000, with a 170-83 (.672 pct) record. During the
decade, the Huskies have won three GLIAC Championships, qualified
for the NCAA Tournament four times and participated in the GLIAC
Tournament all seven opportunities.
HISTORY VS. NORTHERN MICHIGAN
Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan have met 192 times on the
hardwood with the Wildcats having won 127 of those matchups. The
teams have each won 11 times in the 22 games since 2000.
FEDRICK PULLED DOWN 20 REBOUNDS LAST WEEK
Junior Fedrick Bowe racked up 20 rebounds in two games last week to
improve his season rebounding average to a team-high 7.1. The 6-5
forward ranks ninth in the league in rebounding. He also owns the
team's fourth-best scoring average at 6.6 points per contest.
MAKELA GOES ALL OR NOTHING
Senior Josh Makela tallied a season-high 17 points vs. Saginaw
Valley State last Thursday (Feb. 14) with a 5-of-7 mark from the
field and 6-of-7 mark from the foul line. The 6-0 guard then went
scoreless in Tech's contest vs. Northwood. Makela has three games
in double figures this season and 13 games with five points or
fewer. His season scoring average is 5.3 points per game.
BALANCED ATTACK
Seven different Huskies have tallied game-high scoring honors this
season. Sean Geary, Tim Strom, Robby Springborn, Kris Alpers,
Fedrick Bowe Mike Szatko and Don Fowler have all accomplished the
feat.
HUSKY BITES
Michigan Tech is 11-2 when leading at the half and 1-10 when
trailing. The Huskies are also 8-3 in night games and 3-10 in day
contests ... The Huskies have played games in six different states
this season (Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and
Wisconsin).
