HOUGHTON, Mich. Four players scored in double figures to
lead No. 14 Michigan Tech to its sixth straight win a 73-58
triumph over Wayne State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference women's basketball today at the SDC Gym. Starters Katie
Wysocky and Sarah Stream combined for 35 points while Lisa
Staehlin and Alicia Schneider totaled 22 points off the bench
to lift the Huskies to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in league play.
Tech outscored the Warriors (2-6, 1-4 GLIAC) 40-25 in the second
half, but the margin was still just four points with less than six
minutes to play before the hosts pulled away.
Wysocky made a layup, assisted on a Stream 3-pointer and made two
free throws in the next two minutes to push gap to eight. Stream
knocked down back-to-back jumpers before Lisa
Staehlin's three-point play put the Huskies up 68-56. It all
but sealed the win with 1:25 to go.
Michigan Tech stroked 22-of-26 field goal attempts (55 percent) and
23-of-26 free throw attempts (89 percent) for the game. The Huskies
also held a 33-23 rebounding margin while holding WSU to 39 percent
from the floor.
"We sharpened up the defense in the second half, and they missed
some shots they were making in the first half," said head coach John
Barnes. "The bench gave us a big lift today, and I thought
Stream made some really big shots."
Wysocky posted her third straight double-double and fifth this
season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She also added four assists
in the win. Stream totaled 17 points and four rebounds.
Staehlin turned in a season high in points even though she only
made one field goal. The sophomore went to the foul line 11 times
and cashed in on 10 of them.
Schneider accounted for 10 points with a pair of timely 3-pointers
in the mix.
Wayne State was led by Jasmine McCall, who had 23 points but just
seven in the second half.
Michigan Tech will now have eight days off over Christmas before
returning to action. The Huskies will next host Minnesota Duluth on
Monday, December 29, at the SDC Gym.

Huskies claimed the season sweep over the Warriors ... Katie
Zimmerman moved within two of breaking the career 3-point field
goals record. The junior hit two in the game to run her total to
139 made 3-pointers.
