HOUGHTON, Mich.
The Michigan Tech volleyball team used a 13-8 blocking advantage to
upend the #2 Grand Valley State Lakers 3-1 Friday (Nov. 7) in a
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. In the
process, the Huskies were able to terminate the Lakers' 22-match
winning streak.
"When you come out here and beat the number two team in the
country, it can be nothing but a confidence builder," said 10th
year head coach Krista Mikesch. "The seniors stepped out on their
home court for their second-to-last home game and really showed
leadership."
The Black and Gold won set one 25-23 and overcame a 5-1 deficit in
the beginning of the second set by going on a 14-3 run. The hosts
were able to take the second set 25-20. The Huskies dropped a close
third set (22-25) before taking set four (25-19) and the match.
"After a match like this, you realize how hard you've worked as a
team throughout the season," said Mikesch.
Senior Jen Jung had a balanced offensive and defensive night,
leading Tech in both kills and blocks with 16 and 4, respectively.
Jen Jung also led the squad in attack percentage with a .419.

the Tech in their upset bid. Jorgensen garnered eight kills and a
solo block. Armstrong recorded nine kills, nine digs, and a pair of
blocks.
The Lakers were paced by sophomore Rebeccah Rapin, who put up 11

will also be honored during their final home game as Huskies.
