SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. Lewis made 52 percent from the
field and hit timely shots to defeat Michigan Tech 83-66 tonight in
day two of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge. Bradon Dagans and Jason Genova
combined for 50 points to help the Flyers improve to 2-0. Robby
Springborn scored 21 points in the Huskies' (1-1) first setback of
the season.
The score was 11-all nine minutes into the game before Lewis went
on an 11-0 run. The Huskies battled back to within three but
settled for a five-point deficit at the half, 34-29.
The Flyers opened the second frame with five straight points as
part of a 12-5 run. Tech was only able to get within nine from
there. The Huskies closed to within 58-48 at the 7:58 mark of the
second half before back-to-back 3-pointers from LU put the game
away.
"Lewis was the better club tonight," said head coach Kevin Luke.
"Our kids competed hard right to the bitter end, but we weren't
sharp enough to make in-game adjustments."
Springborn was 7-of-10 from the field inlcluding a 4-of-5 mark from
behind the arc. Sean Geary and Georgio Holt were Tech's
next-highest scorers with nine points apiece. Fedrick Bowe had
eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Lewis made 31-of-60 field goals for 52 percent, while Tech shot 35
percent from the field on 20-of-57 accuracy.
Michigan Tech will play its next two games at home. The Huskies'
home opener is slated for Friday (Nov. 21) at 5 p.m. vs. Alma.
