MARQUETTE, Mich. Northern Michigan claimed a 3-1 Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball win over
Michigan Tech tonight at Vandament Arena. The Huskies (now 16-9
overall and 10-4 in the GLIAC) dropped the first two sets 25-21,
25-17 before winning the third, 26-24. The Wildcats (17-9, 10-4)
closed things out in set four with a 25-20 score.
"We did not come out and execute our game plan like we needed,"
said head coach Krista Mikesch. "Similar to our match with them
at home, we gave up a big lead in the first set and had to play
catchup. We were aggressive after the break (between sets two and
three), but they out-smarted us."
The Huskies finished with a .271 team hitting percentage, but
couldn't match NMU's .349 mark. The Black and Gold did have a
9.0-to-5.0 advantage in total blocks.
Individually, Kelly Jorgensen posted a Tech-high 16 kills with a
match-best .538 hitting percentage. Veronica
Armstrong added 12 kills. Caitlin Wiza and Christa
Jung had 11 digs apiece.
Michigan Tech will host non-conference foe Urbana Sunday (Nov. 2)
at 11 a.m. at the SDC Gym before returning to GLIAC play vs. Grand
Valley State Friday (Nov. 7).
