INDIANAPOLIS - The Michigan Tech volleyball team split a pair of
matches at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament Friday (Oct. 17).
Tech fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 29-27) to Missouri-St. Louis before
posting a 3-2 win (25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 24-26, 15-8) over No. 17
Lewis. The Huskies, who are now 15-6 overall, avenged their 3-1
loss to the Flyers earlier this season.
"We came out strong blocking against Missouri-St. Louis, but we
didn't play strong defense otherwise," said head coach Krista
Mikesch. "We had a lot of unforced errors and did not put
ourselves in a position to win."
Against Lewis, Tech held a 11.0 to 4.0 advantage in blocks and out
hit the Flyers .224 to .177.
Junior Veronica Armstrong paced the Huskies finishing
with 13 kills and 12 digs. She also added three block solos and one
block assist.
Junior Kelly Jorgensen finished with a match-high 14
kills for the Huskies and senior Jen Jung
added 13.
Senior Christa Jung finished with a team-high 17 digs
for the Huskies.
Stephanie Sagat led the Flyers with a match-high 16 kills.
"This was a huge win for us after losing to them earlier in the
season," said Mikesch. "We controlled most of the match and our
older players stepped up. Overall it was a good huge win."
The Huskies will close out the weekend Saturday (Oct. 18) against
Rockhurst at 1:00 p.m.
