SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Junior Drew Dobson recorded an assist on all three of Michigan Tech's goals to defeat the Lake Superior State hockey team 3-2 Saturday (Oct. 11) in the Superior Showcase. The Huskies (1-1-0) recorded 20 shots in the third period as they out shot the Lakers (0-1-1) 37-27 in the contest.

"Tonight was a big road win for us," said head coach Jamie Russell. "Josh Robinson played well in net for us tonight. He made a number of big saves."

After a scoreless first period, senior Malcolm Gwilliam scored a short handed goal off a wrist shot at 1:59 of the second period. He was assisted by Dobson and senior Alex Lord on the goal.

The Lakers tied the game up with a goal of their of their own less than one minute later. Zac Mac Voy scored the even strength goal on assists by Will Acton and Dillin Stonehouse.

Freshman Alex MacLeod scored a goal for the second straight night after tallying a power play goal from the slot at 2:35 of the final frame. He was assisted by Dobson and sophomore Eric Kattelus.

LSSU evened the game at 2-2 thanks to an unassisted goal by Stonehouse. The goal was his first of the year.

Sophomore Jordan Baker tallied the game-winning goal short handed at 15:01 of the third. Dobson was the lone assist on the goal.

Tech finished the evening 1-8 on the man advantage and Lake Superior State was 0-9.

Freshman Josh Robinson picked up his first career win after making 25 saves on 27 shots.

Brian Mahoney-Wilson (0-1-0) made 34 saves on 37 shots and gave up all three Tech goals in nearly 59 minutes of work.

The Huskies will open WCHA play next Friday (Oct. 17) at Colorado College.
