Box Score

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Four players scored in double figures to lead the Michigan Tech women's basketball team to an 84-67 victory over Hillsdale today in a battle of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Division leaders today at the SDC Gym. The North Division-leading Huskies won their ninth straight outing to improve to 15-3 on the season and 8-1 in the league. The South Division-leading Chargers fell to 5-2 in conference play and 12-3 overall.

The first half was fast-paced as the teams combined for just seven turnovers and near-50 percent shooting. The score was tied at 29 with five minutes left in the frame when the Huskies went on an 11-2 run sparked by a three-point play from Lena Widman. Tech finished off the half with a 42-33 lead.

The margin hovered around 10 points early in the second half until Tech's defense held Hillsdale without a field goal for a five and a half minutes. The Huskies lead was up to 19 points by the 8:22 mark. The hosts then made 11 consecutive free throws to ice the win.

"We really executed our game plan today," said head coach John Barnes. "Our defense was the difference. We made every one of their shots as difficult as possible."

Hillsdale shot just 27 percent from the field in the second stanza and finished the game at 38 percent. Michigan Tech made 45 percent of its shots for the game plus 23-of-26 at the foul line.

Widman tallied the first double-double of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Wysocky turned in a career-high 26 points to go with 10 boards for her ninth double-double of the season. Danae Danen (17) and Katie Zimmerman (14) also posted double digit scoring days.

Senior Catherine Rottier dished out eight assists — her fourth game of the season with eight or more.
