Huskies Remain Perfect at Home
HOUGHTON, Mich. Michigan Tech turned back a Saginaw
Valley State charge at the SDC Gym tonight to gain a 3-2 Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball victory. The
Huskies (5-8 overall, 3-3 GLIAC) won the first two games (30-27 and
30-21) before Saginaw Valley State (13-6, 2-4 GLIAC) rallied in
games three and four (30-22 and 36-34). The hosts closed out game
five with a 15-9 score to remain undefeated at home.
Tech appeared to have the match in control at the intermission
after two games. SVSU came out grabbed momentum with a game three
win. The Cardinals looked as though they would run away with game
four leading 29-24. The Huskies battled back to 29-all, then
had a match point at 33-32 before Saginaw Valley finally prevailed,
36-34.
Michigan Tech controlled game five. Christa Jung's service ace
capped off a 6-1 run to win decisive game.
Jung finished with 11 kills and was one of three Huskies in double
figures. Veronica Armstrong led the way with 16 kills and 11 digs.
Kali Jeter also turned in a double-double with 11 kills and 18
digs.
Michigan Tech used a .161 hitting percentage and 12 total blocks to
even their league record. Jen Jung was a large part of the
defensive effort with a block solo and 10 block assists.
Michigan Tech will try to go 4-0 at home tomorrow as it hosts
Northwood at the SDC Gym at 4 p.m.
