ALLENDALE, Mich. - Michigan Tech opened its 2007 conference
season at #11 Grand Valley State tonight. The host Lakers got the
3-0 win with game scores of 30-25, 30-23, 30-22.
The Huskies played all three games closely before GVSU finished
strong. The third game went to a 23-22 score until the Lakers won
seven consecutive points to secure the win.
"We played better tonight than we have in several years at Grand
Valley," said Michigan Tech head coach Krista Mikesch. "They are
the best team in the GLIAC North, and we played point-for-point
with them for portions of the match. We need to eliminate the
unforced errors and giving up big strings of points."
Kali Jeter turned in a strong match for the Huskies with 25 digs in
the three games. Jen Jung totaled two block solos and three block
assists to lead the team in that category. Veronica Armstrong
registered a team-high nine kills to go with 12 digs. Setter Alison
Greene notched 12 assists and had a solid night defensively with 13
digs.
Michigan Tech (2-6, 0-1 GLIAC) will travel north to Big Rapids,
Mich., tomorrow to face league rival Ferris State at 4 p.m.
