TECH WINS SIXTH STRAIGHT! -- 74-61 AT LAKE STATE

Wysocky Leads Five in Double Figures with 18 Points, 16 Rebounds

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- Five players scored in double figures to lead Michigan Tech to its sixth straight win and an important Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball victory at Lake Superior State today. Freshman Katie Wysocky led the way with 18 points and 16 rebounds to help the Huskies (17-6, 11-5 GLIAC) get the 74-61 triumph and the season split with the Lakers (16-7, 11-4 GLIAC).

A 13-0 run to end the second half helped the Huskies take control of the game, and they never led by less than 11 the entire second frame.

"I'm couldn't be more proud of a team than I am of ours," said head coach John Barnes. "We've had a lot of adversity with injuries, and we just keep plugging away and winning games. He had a great team effort with a lot of good individual performances. I thought we played excellent defense again as well."

Tech never trailed in the first half despite a 9-0 LSSU run that tied the score at 24 with 5:23 to play. The Huskies answered with a 13-0 run behind six straight points from Alicia Schneider. Sarah Stream added five more before Jenna Bartels ended the half with a jumpshot. The score favored the visitors, 37-24, at the intermission.

Stream's second triple of the game 30 seconds into the second frame gave Michigan Tech a 16-point advantage. The Lakers got within 62-51 at the 5:11 mark behind full-court pressure. Three minutes later, the gap was 12 when Katie Zimmerman drained her third three of the contest. Stream and Wysocky then added two free throws apiece to expand the margin to its largest of the game at 19. LSSU scored the final six points of the contest for the final gap.

Wysocky had three assists and three steals to go with her double-double. Schneider had 15 points and six boards. Stream (14), Bartels (12) and Zimmerman (11) also reached double figures.

MTU shot 47 percent from the field and limited the Lakers to 33 percent. The Huskies also utilized a 46-31 rebounding advantage.

Michigan Tech will return home for its final two games of the regular season. The Huskies play host to #12 Grand Valley State on Wednesday (Feb. 14) at 5:30 p.m.

Notes: Michigan Tech owns a six-game winning streak, with its last loss coming at Hillsdale (Jan. 20) ... Wysocky's 16-rebound performance was her career high and four shy of the school record ... Tech held LSSU's top player Mandi Johnson to 5-of-23 from field.
