HOUGHTON, Mich. For the second straight afternoon at the
Country Inn & Suites Classic, all available Michigan Tech
players scored to propel the Huskies to an 89-46 victory over
Finlandia at the SDC Gym. Sophomore Katie
Wysocky scored 20 points in 20 minutes of action to pace Tech,
which improved to 9-3 with the win.
The hosts made their first five 3-pointers of the game to grab an
early 19-4 lead and never looked back. The Black and Gold drained
14-of-23 from behind the arc in the game (60.9) percent and were
55.6 percent from the field.
"I was extremely happy with the way we started the game," said head
coach John Barnes. "Tara (Ferris) played really well in
her first start, and I'm happy everyone got to play and
contribute."
Finlandia shot 39.5 percent from the field in the game and made 20
turnovers. Tech committed a season-low nine turnovers and held a
35-20 rebounding advantage.
Ferris tallied a career-high 12 points by making 4-of-5 3-pointers
in the game. Lena Widman and Lucy
Dernovsek also reached double digits with 13 points each.
Widman added a game-high eight rebounds, while Dernovsek recorded
five boards, four steals and three assists.
Tech's lead at halftime was 45-22 and the margin never dipped below
20 in the final 20 minutes.
Michigan Tech, which is in the midst of a five-game home stand,
will take on Northland on Wednesday (Jan. 2). Game time at the SDC
Gym is set for 5:30 p.m.
Notes: Michigan Tech finished the 2007 Country Inn & Suites
Classic at 2-0 and is now 4-0 in two seasons of the event.
