Huskies Complete Sweep of GLIAC South Division Teams
ERIE, Pa. -- Michigan Tech led from wire-to-wire in a 66-51
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball
road victory at Mercyhurst today. The win completed the Huskies
sweep of their GLIAC South Division foes.
The Huskies made five three-pointers in the first half for a 35-21
lead at the intermission. Tech's defense also caused 11 turnovers
in the opening 20 minutes.
The visitors built up a 17-point lead (51-34) at the 10:12 mark of
the second half. Mercyhurst answered with an 11-2 run to cut the
margin to eight with 5:14 to play. Sarah Magee drained a
three-pointer on Tech's ensuing possession and Amanda Sieja tallied
six of her game-high 16 points over the next three minutes to put
the game away.
Sieja was six-of-10 from the floor and four-of-four at the foul
line en route to her 16 points. Catherine Rottier added 13 points
-- all in the first half -- and a team-high seven rebounds. Maria
Schneider also reached double figures with 11 points.
Tech shot 44 percent from the floor and made nine three-pointers in
the game. Mercyhurst was limited to 36 percent shooting. The Lakers
owned a 38-34 rebounding edge, but turned the ball over five more
times than the Huskies.
Michigan Tech (15-5, 11-2 GLIAC) will return home for Winter
Carnival week. The Huskies host Ferris State on Thursday (Feb. 9)
at 5:30 p.m.
Notes: Michigan Tech owns a 29-5 record in its last 34 GLIAC games
