DULUTH, Minn. -- The Michigan Tech men's tennis team faced
Winona State and St. Scholastica at the Arrowhead Tennis Center
during the weekend and fell by scores of 8-1 and 5-4,
respectively.
Tech's lone team point vs. Winona State on Saturday (Feb. 25) came
off the racquet of Rajiv Nanjandareddy, who won both sets in
tiebreakers by identical scores of (9-7).
Sunday's tilt at St. Scholastica proved to be tight at nearly every
position. Four of the nine matches were decided by tiebreakers,
including the match-deciding number three singles flight. MTU's
Rick Halverson and CSS's Scott Hawley split the first two sets, 6-7
(4), 7-6 (5), before Hawley came away with a 10-8 win in a super
tiebreaker which was played in lieu of a third set.
Halverson and Brett Girard claimed a 9-8 (4) pro-set win at number
one doubles, and Girard came through with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number
one singles. Nanjandareddy (number two singles) and Yassine Borkadi
(number four singles) provided the other two Huskies team points in
the match.
Michigan Tech (1-7) does not have another match listed on its
schedule until Friday, March 18, with a trip to Lewis.
