TECH DOUBLES UP FINLANDIA, 82-41, IN WOMEN'S HOOPS

Yellen, Sieja Tally 14 Points Apiece

HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Michigan Tech rattled off 52 points in the first half on its way to a 82-41 non-conference women's basketball victory at the SDC Gym tonight. The Huskies held a 56-26 rebounding advantage in the contest.

Catherine Rottier drained a three-pointer on Tech's first possession to start the Huskies's highest-scoring offensive half since Nov. 27, 2005. The triple was one of seven MTU long-range bombs in the first 14 minutes. Rottier scored five straight points for a 24-point advantage with 5:20 to play in the opening stanza. The Huskies built up a 52-20 margin at the intermission.

Centers Amanda Sieja and Sarah Yellen combined for 12 of the first 14 Tech points in the second half. Yellen's fifth field goal in as many tries at the 10:30 mark made it a 64-31 Huskies bulge. Lena Widman tallied seven of her 13 points in the final 10 minutes to help the Black and Gold win going away.

Yellen and Sieja tied for game-high scoring honors with 14 points apiece. Rottier registered 13 points -- all in the first half -- to go with six rebounds and six assists. Jenna Bartels pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds to lead all players.

Tech finished at 48 percent field goal shooting for the game, and limited the Lions to 25 percent. That, combined with a +30 rebounding margin, helped the Huskies to their most lopsided victory of the season.

Michigan Tech (18-7) will close out its regular season on Saturday (Feb. 25) at Northern Michigan. Game time is set for 11 a.m. to accommodate an NMU hockey game at the Berry Events Center later that day.
