Sieja Tallied 16 Points, Eight Rebounds
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- Ferris State defeated Michigan Tech, 70-61,
today in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's
basektball at Jim Wink Arena. The Bulldogs (18-8, 12-5 GLIAC) used
a quick start and strong free throw shooting to even the season
series with the Huskies (17-7, 13-4 GLIAC).
Ferris State started the first half on fire from the field and
finished the opening 20 minutes at 56 percent. The Bulldogs built
up a 12-point lead by the 14:04 mark before the Huskies started
chipping away at it. Three-pointers by Jenna Bartels and Catherine
Rottier late in the first half closed the margin to 32-30 at
halftime.
Tech opened the second half with an 8-0 run to grab a 38-34 lead at
the 17:35 mark. FSU answered with a 12-0 run to take control of the
game. The margin grew to as many as 12 points before the Maria
Schneider's triple cut it back to 62-55 with 2:22 to play. The
Bulldogs then his six straight free throws to close out their
win.
Amanda Sieja scored 10 second-half points to finish with a
team-high 16. She also had a team-high eight rebounds. Rottier
finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Bartels tallied seven
points and three assists off the bench.
FSU made 46 percent of its field goals compared to 39 percent for
Tech. The Bulldogs also owned a 36-30 rebounding advantage.
Michigan Tech will return home for a non-conference game against
Finlandia on Wednesday (Feb. 22) at 7 p.m.
