HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Senior Jenna Bartels recorded 11 points and a
career-high 15 rebounds and three other players scored in double
figures to lead Michigan Tech to a 76-57 Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Findlay today at
the SDC Gym. The Huskies held a 10+ point lead for the final 25
minutes to win their 15th consecutive game against GLIAC South
Division opponents.
Unlike Tech's last outing, it held a 46-31 rebounding margin and
committed just seven turnovers in the contest.
"We worked hard on rebounding all week and it paid off today," said
head coach John Barnes. "It was also key to keep the turnovers down
against a 1-1-3 zone defense that we'd never seen before."
Tech began the contest with back-to-back three-pointers from Stream
for a 6-0 advantage. Midway through the half, the Huskies used a
13-3 run capped by another Stream triple to gain a 10-point margin.
The gap was as many as 14 in the next few minutes, but the hosts
settled for a 37-25 edge at the break.
Freshmen showcased their skills in the second half as Katie
Wysocky, Danae Danen and Katie Zimmerman combined for 17
consecutive Huskies points to push the lead over 20 under five
minutes.
Stream finished with a game-high 19 points, while Wysocky tallied
17 points. Zimmerman notched her third straight game in double
figures with 13 points.
MTU shot 42 percent from the floor and held the visitors to 33
percent.
Michigan Tech will remain at home to face Minnesota Duluth in a
non-conference game next Friday (Dec. 22) at 5:30 p.m.
Notes: Katie Wysocky saw her first action in two weeks since
suffering an ankle injury before the Northwood game (Dec. 7) ...
Bartels previous career high in rebounds was 13 vs. Finlandia last
year (Feb. 22) ... The last GLIAC South team to defeat the Huskies
was Ashland back in the 2003-04 season (Jan. 19).
