SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- Lake Superior State handed Michigan
Tech its first league loss of the season, 74-58, today at Bud
Cooper Gymnasium. The Lakers used 60 percent second-half shooting
and 19 offensive rebounds to pull away from the Huskies.
Michigan Tech led by as many as nine points in the first half.
Alicia Schneider's three-pointer made the score, 27-18, at the 5:52
mark. LSSU switched to a full court press and turned things around.
The Huskies committed four turnovers and the Lakers finished the
half on a 14-2 run for a 32-29 halftime lead.
The second half saw the Lakers build a 12-point lead by the 13:54
mark. Nearly seven minutes later, Amanda Sieja made two free throws
to cut the gap to eight (58-50) with 7:17 to play. LSSU answered
with a 12-0 run to put the game away.
Maria Schneider finished with team highs of 11 points and eight
rebounds. Alicia Schneider and Catherine Rottier each added 10
points.
LSSU held a 37-30 advantage in rebounding and committed 10
turnovers to the Huskies' 16.
Michigan Tech's next game will come Thursday (Jan. 12) at
Wisconsin-Parkside.
