Sieja and Rottier Combine for 37 of Team's 54 Points
KENOSHA, Wis. -- Wisconsin-Parkside used 54 percent shooting and
a 34-23 rebounding advantage to defeat Michigan Tech, 72-54, in
women's basketball tonight.
UWP opened the game by hitting four-of-six three-pointers en route
to a 37-25 halftime lead. The Huskies had a 16-13 edge before the
Rangers reeled off a 24-9 run to close the half. Parkside also
benefitted from a 20-12 rebounding advantage in the opening
frame.
Tech battled to within 42-32 on Catherine Rottier's three-pointer
with 15:52 to play. The Rangers answered with five straight points
from Carrie Scheive, who finished with a game-high 27 points. The
margin was as many as 20 before Amanda Sieja scored six consecutive
Tech points to make it a 63-48 game with 5:06 to play. That was as
close as the Huskies would get the rest of the way.
Sieja tallied game-highs of 20 points and six rebounds. Rottier
added 17 points and three assists. The other nine Huskies combined
for 17 points.
Michigan Tech will have a week off before returning to GLIAC
action. The Huskies host Wayne State at the SDC Gym on Thursday
(Jan. 19) at 5:30 p.m.
