Tech Defense Limites T'wolves to One Field Goal in Nine-Minute

MIDLAND, Mich. -- Jenna Bartels scored 15 second half points
including three critical three-pointers to lead Michigan Tech to a
63-59 victory at Northwood tonight. The Huskies held the
Timberwolves scoreless for six minutes late in the second half to
claim their sixth win of the season.
Northwood trailed, 35-27, at halftime before shooting at a high
percentage to open the second half. Back-to-back three-pointers
gave the T'wolves a 51-45 lead with 9:03 to play. Catherine Rottier
then scored two of her team-high 19 points on a layup followed by
consecutive triples from Bartels to give the edge back to the
Huskies, 53-51, at the 6:28 mark.
An Amanda Sieja layup and another three-pointer by Bartels went on
the board before Northwood finally broke a six minute scoreless
drought. Maureen Elliott's layup at the 2:57 mark made the score,
58-53, and was NU's only field goal between the 9:03 and :10
marks.
Tech made five-of-six free throws down the stretch for the to hold
on to the four-point win.
Bartels finished with 18 points and six rebounds. Rottier notched
seven rebounds and five assists to go with her 19 points. Point
guard Ashley Zehren matched Rottier's game-high in rebounds with a
career high of seven.
Tech shot 42 percent for the game compared to 39 for the hosts. MTU
also held a 37-36 rebounding edge.
Michigan Tech will have one day off before taking on Saginaw Valley
State on the road Saturday (Dec. 10). Tipoff is slated for 1
p.m.
