Huskies Now 3-0 in GLIAC
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Michigan Tech women's basketball
team walked away from a very defensive-oriented game at O'Neill
Arena with a 51-43 victory. The teams combined for 44 turnovers and
neither shot better than 32 percent, but the Huskies won to move to
7-1 on the season.
The game was a see-saw affair with the lead changing hands 11
times. Tech held a 23-22 edge at halftime.
The score was knotted at 32 four minutes into the second half
before Amanda Sieja and Jenna Bartels hit buckets on back-to-back
possessions. The Huskies still had a four-point lead ten minutes
later at the 6:27 mark when Sieja connected on another jumper in
the paint.
Neither team scored for nearly five minutes until SVSU's Tricia
Everett drained a two-pointer. After a Tech miss, the Cardinals had
two chances to tie or take the lead. The MTU defense held and
Catherine Rottier iced the game with six consecutive makes at the
foul line.
Bartels finished with team highs of 16 points and seven rebounds.
Rottier added 12 points, five rebounds and five assists.
MTU shot 32.1 percent from the field, but held the Cardinals to
27.7 percent. The Huskies were helped by an 11-of-14 performance at
the free throw line.
Michigan Tech will be off until next Saturday (Dec. 17), when it
travels to face Findlay in a GLIAC contest.
