During the 2025–26 season, Groethe won the 7.5K classic at the NCAA Central Regional Championship and recorded 13th- and 16th-place finishes at the U.S. SuperTour in Theodore Wirth. He was named CCSA Rookie of the Year, qualified for the NCAA Championships as a freshman and finished 16th overall in the 7.5K classic at the NCAA Championships, the top finish among American freshmen in the event.
Groethe also earned a spot on the National Collegiate All-Academic Team.
Prior to Michigan Tech, Groethe competed at the junior level in Norway and internationally. His results included a third-place finish in the junior sprint and ninth place in the 10K skate individual start at the Norwegian Junior National Championships. He also placed 12th in the 10K classic mass start at the Junior National Championships, 12th in the Swedish Junior Opener 10K classic individual start and 13th in the Norwegian Cup 15K classic mass start.
Groethe attended Meråker VGS and previously studied Sports Science at Nord University.
Outside of skiing, Groethe enjoys music, spending time outdoors, participating in other sports and spending time with family and friends. He is the son of Sarah and Knut Groethe and has a sister, Kaja.
Groethe chose Michigan Tech because of the opportunity to study in the United States while continuing his skiing career. Coming from Norway, he saw the chance to attend Michigan Tech as an opportunity he couldn't pass up—and says the experience has exceeded all expectations.
