During the 2023–24 season, Burns placed ninth in the 7.5K skate at the Ariens CCSA Invite. She was also recognized with the Harold Meese Sportsmanship Award. Burns had a standout 2024–25 season, winning the 7.5K classic and placing second in the 20K skate at the CCSA Championships. She also placed 30th in the 20K skate at the NCAA Championships. Following the season, she received the Most Improved Award and was named to the Academic All-District Team. In 2025–26, Burns placed second in both the 5K classic and 20K skate at the MTU CCSA Invitational. She added a third-place finish in the 7.5K classic at the NCAA Central Regional Championship and finished 22nd in the same event at the NCAA Championships. She was also honored with the Team Husky Award and named to the Academic All-District Team. Burns attended Lewis and Clark High School and is also a member of the Michigan Tech cross-country team, competing as a dual-sport athlete in Nordic skiing and cross-country running. Outside of competition, Burns enjoys backcountry and telemark skiing, mountain biking, trail running, canoeing, backpacking, gardening and cooking. Since arriving at Michigan Tech, she has fallen in love with the Upper Peninsula and Lake Superior. Burns first discovered Michigan Tech through the Nordic ski team and was drawn to the opportunity to compete as a dual-sport athlete. The university's strong Environmental Engineering program also made her confident that Michigan Tech was the right academic fit. She particularly appreciates having world-class ski trails just a five-minute walk from her home and the close-knit community of coaches and teammates.
