Jamie Phillips returned to Michigan Tech in 2020-21 to serve as a volunteer coach for the Huskies. He will focus on the goaltenders.
Phillips played four years (2016-20) and 162 games of professional hockey in the American Hockey League, ECHL, and the Elite Ice Hockey League in the United Kingdom. He was a seventh-round (190th overall) pick by Winnipeg in the 2012 National Hockey League Draft and earned an NHL call up in January 2018 but did not get any playing time and then again as a black ace for the Jets during the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Caledonia, Ontario native played four seasons for Michigan Tech from 2012-16, posting a 2.00 goals-against average and .922 save percentage in his career. He is Tech's all-time shutout leader with 10 and second in program history with 57 wins, finishing with a .678 (57-25-8) winning percentage. Phillips was a two-time All-WCHA selection, three-time WCHA All-Academic, and was named the WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete as a senior. He was also a finalist for the Senior Class Award in 2015-16 and the Mike Richter Award in 2014-15. He led the WCHA in wins in each of his final two seasons with 51.
Phillips was named the starting goaltender for the 2016 ECHL All-Star Game during his first pro season and received ECHL Goaltender of the Month honors in October 2016. He played 27 games in the AHL for the Manitoba Moose, 99 ECHL games for the Tulsa Oilers, Jacksonville IceMen, Florida Everblades, Reading Royals, Cincinnati Cyclones, and Brampton Beast, and 24 games for the Coventry Blaze of the EIHL.
Phillips earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science in 2016 and is pursuing his master’s degree in Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology.
