Biography

Chris Tok enters his fourth as an assistantcoach at Michigan Tech. He spent the previous five seasons asassistant coach and assistant general manager for the United StatesHockey League’s Waterloo Black Hawks.

Tok helped guide the Black Hawks to a 141-137-23 regular-seasonrecord and a 14-10 mark in USHL playoff games over his five-yeartenure. In 2002-03, the Black Hawks amassed a 38-17-5 record andsecured the first Eastern Division title in franchise history.Waterloo continued its success in 2003-04 by recording a 30-27-3mark and capturing its first Clark Cup title in the USA Hockey TierI National Championship series. The Black Hawks registered a29-25-6 record in 2004-05 and advanced to the first round of theClark Cup Playoffs. After four years as assistant coach, Tok waspromoted to associate head coach and assistant general managerbefore the 2005-06 campaign.

Prior to his stint with the Black Hawks, Tok was a player andassistant coach for the Missouri River Otters of the United HockeyLeague in the 2000-01 season. Tok’s primary responsibilitiesincluded serving as the River Otters’ recruiting coordinator,scheduling, managing practices, supervising conditioning programsand hockey operations.

Tok served as an assistant coach for Team World in the 2003 USHLProspects/All-Star Game and has been an assistant coach at USAHockey’s Player Development Camps since 2002.

A four-year letterwinner on the Wisconsin Badgers’ bluelinefrom 1991 to 1995, Tok was a part of four National CollegiateAthletic Association Tournament teams including an NCAA runner-upsquad in 1991-92. Tok donned an “A” on his sweater inthe 1994-95 season, during which the Badgers compiled asecond-place finish in the Western Collegiate Hockey Associationregular-season standings and were crowned WCHA PlayoffChampions.

As a sophomore, Tok received UW’s Otto Breitenbach MostImproved Player Award and the Ivan B. Williamson Scholastic Award.Tok was a WCHA All-Academic Team selection in his junior campaign.He tallied 10-26--36 points in 144 career games and ranks thirdall-time in the Badgers’ record book in penalties (141) andpenalty minutes (302).

Taken in the 10th round of the 1991 National Hockey League EntryDraft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Tok began his professional hockeycareer at the Penguins’ training camp in 1995. The defensemanwent on to play professionally in the United States, Canada,Austria and Slovenia from 1995 to 2001.

Hailing from Coleraine, Minn., Tok is a 1991 graduate of Greenway(Minn.) High School, where he was a three-time varsity letterwinnerand a
three-year participant in the Minnesota Select program. Tok earnedhis bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Wisconsin in1996.

Tok and his wife Melissa reside in Houghton with their son,Easton.
