Defensive coordinator Tim Driscoll, who has turned MichiganTech’s defense into one of the top units in the Great LakesIntercollegiate Athletic Conference, begins his ninth season inHoughton and sixth as assistant head coach in 2012.
Driscoll’s defenses have led the GLIAC in points allowedeach of the last two years. In 2011, the Huskies had the GLIAC'stop and nation's 12th-ranked total defense which allowed just and286 yards per game.
Tech has allowed just 22.2 points per game during Driscoll'stenure compared to an average of 32.7 the three years prior to hisarrival. Black and Gold defenses have finished in the top fiveof the GLIAC in both points allowed and total yards six times inhis eight years; the 2006 defense was first in total yardsallowed.
Before coming to Michigan Tech, Driscoll spent six of theprevious seven seasons as a defensive coordinator, most recently atMinnesota, Crookston of the Northern Sun IntercollegiateConference. He served at Jamestown College, North Dakota, in thesame role in 2002.
Prior to that, he was Northern Michigan’s defensivecoordinator. The Marquette, Mich., native earned a bachelor’sdegree in physical education from North Dakota State in 1995 andremained there to gain a master’s degree in athleticadministration in 1997.
Driscoll, who holds the Marquette High School pole vault record,also serves as an instructor in Michigan Tech’s exercisescience and physical education department. He and his wife, Vicky,have three daughters, Sierrah, Sloane and Reese. The Driscollsreside in Hancock.
